Watercolor pencil drawings work best in three stages. First lay in your shadows, values, and hues with a coat of pencil. Blend the colors with water. Once the paper is dry, add details and crisp up the edges with a second coat of colored pencil. Add details at the end of the drawing so they are not obliterated by the wash.

Lay in the basic shape with a non photo blue pencil then draw the outlines with pencils that match the colors of the subject.
Test colors off to the side of the drawing Overlap colors to build the hues and values of your subject. Test colors with water off to the side of the drawing to see how they layer.
Apply water with a waterbursh one petal at a time. Start off with minor petals and work toward the area of interest so that you know how the pigment will react by the time you get to the focal point.
Once the paper is dry, continue to build the textures, values, and shadows.
With a sharp pencil add details. Focus detail in the center of interest and the parts of the flower that are closest to you.
