Mussel Rock City Park Field Trip

At the north end of Pacifica is a little known spot of great geological importance. This location is so significant in California Geology that John McPhee opens his book Assembling California at this spot (suggested reading). In the morning we will make our way down to the edge of the sea where waves crash against spectacular rocky sea stacks a great chance to observe and sketch waves and rocks. The walk is not far so we can leave our potluck lunches in the cars. We will sketch until noonish and then enjoy our famous BANJC Potluck. After lunch I will give a mini workshop on waves and surf before heading out on the beach to explore a way of enhancing curiosity through the pages of a sketchbook. The short path between the lunch spot and the beach is a bit of a scramble. Sturdy shoes are recommended.

Bring your own bowl and spoon and a treat to share in our potluck lunch. I encourage you to carpool to get there. You can organize carpools on the club Facebook page.

Directions: From CA-1 S toward Pacifica. Take the Palmetto Ave exit toward Manor Drive.Keep right at the fork, follow signs for Monterey Road/Palmetto Avenue. Turn right onto Palmetto Avenue. You will see a McDonald’s on the left. This is a great place to use the bathroom if you are so inspired (There are no bathrooms at the site but you can also use to these bathrooms during lunch. Our cars will be close by.). Turn left onto Westline Drive and follow it to the end, just keep left and you will do fine. We will meet in the parking lot at the end of the road.
