Central Valley Backroads (geese, geese, and ooh, an eagle!) Fieldtrip
February 17, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm PST
Join the Nature Journal Club for a day of nature exploration, art, and journaling in the rice fields of the Sacramento Valley.
The rice farmers of the Sacramento Valley have worked closely with bird conservation groups to maximize the wildlife potential of the fields. In winter, ducks, geese, and swans congregate in the rice fields by the thousands. Some of these mega flocks are visible on wildlife refuges but much of the action happens out in the rice fields. The Nature Journal Club will be the guests of the California Rice Commission for a rare behind the scenes tour of Sacramento Valley rice farms.
Bring stools, spotting scopes, binoculars, journaling supplies, potluck items to share for lunch (we will be near our cars at lunch), a bowl and a spoon, and your sense of wonder.
If heavy rain is forecasted for the day of the field trip, the trip may rescheduled to the next weekend (Sunday the 24th). Check the program description Sunday morning before leaving for updates and changes.
The program is open to all ages and ability levels. No registration necessary. $20 suggested donation.
