Explore the process and practice of Nature Journaling to heighten attention, curiosity, and memory.
Discover how journaling can enhance your experience and connection to nature in the serenity of the forest at Tassahara. Let go of your inner critic and allow your journal page to pull you into a flow state of deep concentration and wonder. Learn to combine drawings and written notes in a way that opens your curiosity to mysteries small and large. This workshop will include, demonstrations to develop your journaling and drawing technique, group discussions and reflection, and plenty of practice in the field. All levels welcome.

John Muir Laws, naturalist, educator and artist has taught people to connect to nature through journaling since 1990. He is the author of The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling (2016) and The Laws Guide to Drawing Birds (2012). He leads nature journal workshops and field trips for practitioners and teachers.
Kyoshin Wendy Lewis has been practicing at SF Zen Center since 1987, including living for six years at Tassajara. She was ordained by Sojun Mel Weitsman in 1997 and completed Dharma Transmission with Eijun Linda Cutts in December 2012. Through her interest in extended priest training, she participated in a one-year chaplain training program at UCSF Medical Center and completed a Masters of Theology at the University of San Francisco. She is currently the Web Editor. Wendy regularly teaches classes and gives talks on Buddhism and is a qualified teacher of ordination sewing.
