Teacher Workshop: Field Journaling and NGSS- East Bay

August 2, 2016 @ 10:00 am - August 3, 2016 @ 3:00 pm

$75

Learn how to become a keen observer of the wild places in your neighborhood and help students unlock a love for the natural world in the process.

Join naturalist, John “Jack” Muir Laws, and CIB educators on this two day, outdoor, journaling workshop that incorporates the new science standards. Instructors will teach you how to actively observe and ask scientific questions about the natural world through sketching and creative writing exercises, and they will help you incorporate these skills into the new science standards curriculum. This mix of art, science, and language arts as well as Jack, Jim & Samantha’s unique teaching styles will give you the confidence and skills necessary to guide your students through journaling activities in your schoolyard and beyond.

While creating your own field journal, participants will explore the beautiful habitats in Coyote Hills and Redwood Regional Parks; deepen their observational skills; learn how to accurately sketch what they see; and discuss ways to constructively critique students’ work. By the end of the workshop, teachers will have the skills necessary to integrate journaling and creative writing activities into their science curriculum. All resources presented at this workshop are aligned with California science and language arts standards for grades 1-12.

Is it possible to supply a carpool list for the Teacher Workshop with Jack Laws and CIB on 8/2 and 8/3. I live in Danville off I-680.
