How can we use new and inventive language to help us and our readers see the world afresh, to appreciate its power and beauty? Through poetic tools of empathy, association, and surprise, we can record and transmit our experiences in the world to those who will read and imagine it for themselves. All ages and experience levels are welcome. No registration is necessary.

Marthine Satris “Mar-TEEN-ah SAT-riss” is the Associate Publisher at Heyday, the nonprofit publisher of nonfiction books about California’s history, nature, and people. She grew up in West Marin and lives in Oakland. Her writing has been published in Flyway Journal, The San Francisco Chronicle, and Zyzzyva, among other publications.
