Making Paper Mache Birds
September 7 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am PDT

Meet Nancy Overton and explore her beautiful methods for sculpting birds with everyday items.
Nancy will give us a slide presentation of step-by-step photos of how she makes a bird: tools and materials, collecting reference photos, making a silhouette drawing, making wire silhouettes, putting the silhouettes together and filling in the frame, covering the frame with strips of newspaper, covering the bird in colored papers, and applying the eyes. Have your journal ready to sketchnote this process!
From our Special Guest
My name is Nancy Overton and I am an artist. In the years I spent in the commercial craft industry, I developed designs and products for the craft and gift markets. I wrote how-to articles for craft publications and instructions for craft kits. In my fine art life, my world is paper and glue: paper collage and paper mache. Through my themes of birds, animals and flowers my goal is to increase awareness and care for the natural world and through my food themes, my goal is to encourage the celebration of wine, tea and cookies. I sell my art in galleries, license art to the gift market, teach an occasional class and run a small greeting card and poster business. When I’m not creating, I will be in the garden, walking the dog or roaming estate sales looking for old recipes and letters, sheet music and other ephemera to use in my paper creations. I am a graduate of The California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, 1965 and I live in Roseville, CA. www.nancyovertondesign.com
