SUMMARY:Forest Therapy\, Nature Journaling & Relationship with Place
DESCRIPTION:From Japan to the California Coast\n\n\n\nJoin speical guest Wendy Figone and John Muir Laws for an exploration of Forest Therapy and how to incorperate it into your programs.. \n\n\n\n\nNature journaling and Forest Therapy share a common root: slowing down to deepen relationship with place. In this session\, Wendy Figone explores how these two practices beautifully complement one another—where they overlap\, where they differ\, and why they are so powerful together. \n\n\n\nDrawing from her experience studying Forest Therapy in Japan (where it is practiced as part of preventive healthcare) and her work certifying Forest Therapy Trails in Santa Cruz\, Wendy shares how Forest Therapy emphasizes sensory immersion and embodied presence\, while nature journaling invites reflection\, curiosity\, and remembering. Together\, they help us return to the same places again and again with greater intimacy and care. \n\n\n\nWendy will also share stories from her monthly “Stress Busters” gatherings at Mavericks\, where gentle somatic movement\, Forest Therapy by the ocean\, and occasional nature journaling invitations support people navigating tech stress and burnout—while deepening relationship with land and sea. \n\n\n\nThis talk is a reflective exploration of attention\, embodiment\, and stewardship\, and how simple practices of noticing can shape how we care for ourselves\, our communities\, and the places we love. \n\n\n\nTime will be reserved for questions and conversation. \n\n\n\nAll ages and experience levels are welcome. No registration is necessary. If you are new to Zoom or are having trouble with the meeting controls\, please see these notes and suggestions on Zoom Tips for Online Classes with John Muir Laws to help you get more out of the online workshop. When possible I will also make a recording of the workshop and post it on my blog. I look forward to seeing you there! \n\n\n\nNOTE: Start time is 12 PM Pacific\, 1 PM Mountain\, 2 PM Central\, 3 PM Eastern Time \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease share if you like it!\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n More\n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print

SUMMARY:Creating complex compositions with Wendy Hollender
DESCRIPTION:Learn the novel and usefull techniques Wendy used to create her beautiful new book The album of Plant Families. This could change the way you think of composition!\n\n\n\n\nToday’s Program: Creating a complex composition with various focal points\n\n\n\nTo create the paintings for the Album of Plant Families Wendy used a technique to create complex compositions right on her final painting. She does this by putting plastic over her paper and laying out different subjects to draw so she can see them together and create focal points and areas of interest with one plant relating to another plant on the page. During this demo she will show you how she does this and do a bit of drawing on the final paper to get things started. Her medium is colored pencil and watercolor together on watercolor paper. \n\n\n\nAbout The Album of Plant Families\n\n\n\nIn vibrant\, full-page illustrations rendered from life\, renowned botanical artist Wendy Hollender depicts the plant families most commonly encountered in the garden and in the wild\, showing the connections between the plants around us and deepening our appreciation of nature. Her own lively text is complemented by guest essays from a variety of distinguished contributors. \n\n\n\nAbout Wendy:\n\n\n\nWendy Hollender is a world-renowned botanical artist and author whose work has been exhibited at the Royal Botanic Gardens\, Kew\, the New York Botanical Garden\, and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History\, and published in the New York Times\, O: The Oprah Magazine\, and numerous other outlets. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design\, Hollender is the author of the best-selling books The Joy of Botanical Drawing and Botanical Drawing in Color\, and teaches botanical drawing at the New York Botanical Garden and other beautiful venues around the world. See more about Wendy at www.wendyhollender.com and her educational website www.drawbotanical.com. \n\n\n\nAll ages and experience levels are welcome.
