Join us for an exploration of the science and art of lemur conservation. Kate Thompson will share her experiences with lemur conservation and John Muir Laws will demonstrate techniques to draw Lemurs.
Katharine (Kate) Thompson is a PhD Candidate in Medical Anthropology at Stony Brook University, where she studies who hunts lemurs and why in Madagascar. Kate works with the villages surrounding Kirindy Mitea National Park, and documents the beliefs, needs and opinions of local people. By understanding the forces that drive communities to illegally hunt and consume wildlife – often poverty and food insecurity — we can better create policy that supports both human and wildlife populations alike.
