SUMMARY:GVNJC: Activate Your Senses!
DESCRIPTION:Join the Great Valley Nature Journal Club for a guest workshop with Janice Kelley. This session will create opportunities to discover a new dimension in your nature journaling experience.\n\nAfter a short presentation describing different journaling practices\, you will engage in either one or two activities and share\, depending on time and interest. Activate your senses and curiosity: what do you see? feel on your skin? hear? What questions do you have?\nActivities are based on experiences described in Janice Kelley’s blogs and book\, “Mornings on Fair Oaks Bridge\, Watching Wildlife at the Lower American River.” Preview at https://naturelegacies.com.\n\n\nDownload the handout\, which will be used to guide the activities:\nUP-NatureJournal 1pg\n\n\nClick Here to Join the Zoom Workshop \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nMeeting ID: 868 0966 9730\nPasscode: nature

SUMMARY:Mountain Lion Crossing! Art and Conservation
DESCRIPTION:Beth Pratt\, author and conservation leader\, joins John Muir Laws to talk about her work with mountain lions and building the largest wildlife crossing in the world in the most unlikely of places; the Los Angeles area. As the California Regional Executive Director for the National Wildlife Federation\, she says\, “I have the best job in the world—advocating for the state’s remarkable wildlife.” Beth leads the #SaveLACougars campaign to build the largest wildlife crossing in the world in the Los Angeles area to help save a population of mountain lions from extinction\, and her conservation work has been featured by The New Yorker\, The Wall Street Journal\, Washington Post\, BBC World Service\, CBS This Morning\, the Los Angeles Times\, Men’s Journal\, and NPR.\n\n\nHer new book\, I Heart Wildlife: A Guided Activity Journal for Connecting With the Wild World\, was released in August\, and she is also the author of When Mountain Lions are Neighbors: People and Wildlife Working It Out In California\, published by Heyday Books. She has given a TEDx talk about coexisting with wildlife called\, “How a Lonely Cougar in Los Angeles Inspired the World\,” and is featured in the new documentary\, “The Cat that Changed America.” Beth spends much of her time in LA\, but makes her home outside of Yosemite\, “my north star\,” with her five dogs\, two cats\, and the mountain lions\, bears\, foxes\, and other wildlife that frequent her backyard.\n\n\nClick Here to Join the Zoom Workshop! \nPasscode: 187351 \nAll ages and experience levels are welcome.
