SUMMARY:Hawk Hill and Point Bonita Lighthouse Nature Journal Fieldtrip
DESCRIPTION:Join the Nature Journal Club for a day of nature exploration\, art\, and journaling at Hawk Hill and Point Bonita Lighthouse in Marin County.\nWatch hawks trace circles in the sky from rolling hills in the Marin Headlands. Besides its wide-screen vistas of the Pacific and the Golden Gate\, Hawk Hill offers fascinating wildlife experiences. It is the best place to witness the fall raptor migration and provides habitat for the mission blue butterfly. We will enjoy a potluck lunch\, drawing demonstrations\, and have plenty of time to sketch\, journal\, and explore. Meet at Hawk Hill at 10am\, and later in the day\, we will enjoy spectacular views from Point Bonita Lighthouse. If rain is forecasted for the day of the field trip\, the trip may be canceled or relocated to an indoor venue.  \nNOTE: Parking can be very limited at this location on weekends. Please arrive early\, and please bike or carpool! \nCheck the program description Sunday morning before leaving for updates and changes. The program is open to all ages and ability levels. No registration necessary. $20 suggested donation. \nWhat to bring\n\nPlenty of water.\nPack potluck food to share for lunch. SUMMARY:Hawk Hill Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:complete bird in flight\nWe were fogged out last month. Let’s try again! Join us atop Hawk Hill to draw the spectacle of the hawk migration through the Bay Area. Every year thousands of raptors pass above this spot as they make their way south. Learn more about the raptor migration here or see the raptor video. You can also see a histogram of sighting frequencies. If the fog is in\, we may drop down to Rodeo Lagoon to look for the otters until things clear up. Dress in layers\, it can be cold or windy up there. \nBring a treat to share in our potluck lunch. I urge you to carpool to get there. You can organize carpools on the club Facebook page or in the comment section below. \nAlways check the calendar on johnmuirlaws.com on the day of a field trip to see if there are any updates or if the location has been changed due to weather. \nGetting There \nBy car from San Francisco\, go over the Golden Gate Bridge and take the Alexander Avenue exit\, getting in the left lane and following the signs that read “101 South\, San Francisco.” Turn left onto Alexander Avenue at the stop sign and then right onto Conzelman Road. At the traffic circle\, make sure to stay on Conzelman\, following the signs to Hawk Hill. (Don’t get diverted onto McCullough Road.) Continue to the parking area just before Conzelman becomes one-way. \nComing from the north on Highway 101\, take the second Sausalito exit (after the Waldo Tunnel). Stay to the left\, turning left at the stop sign. Then turn right onto Conzelman Road. Continue on Conzelman\, following signs to Hawk Hill. \nBy bus\, the Muni No. 76 tours the Marin Headlands\, running hourly on Sundays. You can catch the No. 76 in downtown San Francisco or at the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza. To get to Hawk Hill\, get off at Conzelman Road and McCullough Road. Walk about 0.6 miles uphill on Conzelman to Hawk Hill. (For more information\, go to www.sfmuni.org.)
