Deep in the Redwoods- Nature Journal Fieldtrip

June 28, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm PDT

Date Change: This Nature Journal Club field trip is on the last Saturday of the month (not the last Sunday).

Discover the secrets of Butano State Park. We will take a slow stroll in the heart of a dense Redwood grove, discovering the delightful diversity of the temperate rainforest. Spend  quality time with Banana Slugs and Skunk Cabbage. Learn about Redwood stewardship and some of the work that is being done to protect endangered species in the forest. This is a great chance to work on botanical close ups, drawing trees and mini landscapes within the forest. This program is free, open to everyone, no experience necessary, and no registration is required.

Directions to Butano State Park: The park is about 22 miles south of Half Moon Bay. Go south on Hwy. 1 and turn left on Pescadero Rd. Go 2.5 miles (through town and past Taqueria Los Amigos) to Cloverdale Rd.; turn right. Go 4.2 miles to the entrance of Butano State Park. Ask for a map. After the entrance, look on the right side for a picnic and parking area with toilets. We will meet at the restrooms and walk to the Mill Ox Trail to explore.

    • John Muir Laws says:

I think it would be difficult. I do not think the trail is accessible. I will look into other locations that are more accessible.
