How to Draw Birds: The Art & Science of Field Journaling

This event is part of the Point Reyes Birding and Nature Festival. Join wildlife biologist, artist and Research Associate of the California Academy of Sciences, John Muir Laws to learn the basics of how to quickly and accurately draw birds in the field and from photo reference. Laws teaches the tools to help people develop as naturalists and stewards including, ways to improve your observation, memory, scientific illustration, and field sketching all while having fun and falling more deeply in love with the world.  This class will take your field observation to a whole new level, by learning to look at birds anatomy, shape and feather type. Participants will learn how to master the one-minute gesture sketch, tricks on how to draw shorebirds, waterfowl and songbirds,  get to practice these skills in the field. No previous drawing experience is necessary. Bring a sketchpad and pencil.
