Fundamentals: Pencil Technique

Bobcat skull 9You can load your journal kit with expensive and fancy tools but few are as universal, versatile, handy and reliable as a graphite pencil. Learn how to get the most mileage out of your pencils and practice fundamental drawing skills. This workshop will establish a platform for work with any subject. We will investigate pencil techniques with line and value, drawing with a tortillion, and creatively using an eraser. Suggested supplies to follow along with the demonstration:

  1. Graphite pencils (HB,  2B, and 4B)
  2. Pencil sharpener
  3. Kneaded eraser
  4. Paper blender (tortillion) You can buy one or make your own.
  5. Pen knife
  6. White plastic eraser
  7. Erasing shield
