[E]xpand your naturalist bag of tricks and improve your ability to observe, document, and wonder. There is more to observing than looking hard. Learn ways to improve your observation skills and memory. Discover how to measure distances and heights and estimate numbers in large flocks. Learn your pace to accurately measure long distances. Bring your binoculars and learn how to adjust them for your eyes and instantly spot a bird through the lenses. Learn fun nature journal exercises that invite scientific discovery and exploration. All participants will receive a paste in page to glue in the back of your journal filled with useful tools that field biologists use in the course of their work. While not focusing on drawing skills, this workshop will widen the scope of your naturalist skills and journaling activities and is guaranteed to be a lot of fun.
Building 989 is in the Presidio (behind the bathrooms next to the Warming Hut). Building 989 doesn’t actually have a street address (the Presidio can get pretty confusing – most of the buildings don’t have addresses!) It’s at the intersection of Long Avenue and Marine Drive, behind the bathrooms next to the Warming Hut Bookstore and Cafe. On the Google map above of the Warming Hut, building 989 is labeled “Pacific Coast Federation.” If you’re using mapquest or GPS, the best thing would be to go to the Warming Hut at 983 Marine Drive. We will put up a sign at the 989 building entrance and near the parking lot to point you in the right direction. Click here to see a map with directions to building 989 in the Presidio with the best way to get there from 101 and from Marina Boulevard (because of the construction, some roads are closed).
