Forest Therapy, Nature Journaling & Relationship with Place

Virtual Event

July 1 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm PDT

From Japan to the California Coast

Join speical guest Wendy Figone and John Muir Laws for an exploration of Forest Therapy and how to incorperate it into your programs..

Nature journaling and Forest Therapy share a common root: slowing down to deepen relationship with place. In this session, Wendy Figone explores how these two practices beautifully complement one another—where they overlap, where they differ, and why they are so powerful together.

Drawing from her experience studying Forest Therapy in Japan (where it is practiced as part of preventive healthcare) and her work certifying Forest Therapy Trails in Santa Cruz, Wendy shares how Forest Therapy emphasizes sensory immersion and embodied presence, while nature journaling invites reflection, curiosity, and remembering. Together, they help us return to the same places again and again with greater intimacy and care.

Wendy will also share stories from her monthly “Stress Busters” gatherings at Mavericks, where gentle somatic movement, Forest Therapy by the ocean, and occasional nature journaling invitations support people navigating tech stress and burnout—while deepening relationship with land and sea.

This talk is a reflective exploration of attention, embodiment, and stewardship, and how simple practices of noticing can shape how we care for ourselves, our communities, and the places we love.

Time will be reserved for questions and conversation.

All ages and experience levels are welcome. No registration is necessary. If you are new to Zoom or are having trouble with the meeting controls, please see these notes and suggestions on Zoom Tips for Online Classes with John Muir Laws to help you get more out of the online workshop.
