Deer Island Nature Journal Fieldtrip
December 30, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Practice drawing trees near and far.
Enjoy a delightful pocket of bay-oak woodland at the edge of Novato’s wetlands. John Muir Laws will show techniques for sketching leaves, trees, and woodlands.
Bring a potluck treat to share (and a bowl and spoon) for our community lunch. Your lunch item should fit into your backpack as we will not be near the cars when we eat.
BONUS: Celebrate the holidays at the Nature Journaler’s gift exchange! If you’d like to participate, please bring a wrapped nature journaling-related item (pencil, journal, ruler, etc–perhaps another one of something you LOVE in your own kit?) and join in the fun! No need to spend a lot of money. We will have a gift exchange after our potluck.
Dress in layers and bring your own water. There are no restrooms on the site so go before you go. If rain is forecasted for the day of the field trip, the trip may be canceled or relocated to an indoor venue. Check the program description Sunday morning before leaving for updates and changes. The program is open to all ages and ability levels. No registration necessary. $20 suggested donation.
Directions: From US 101 in Marin County, exit San Marin Drive/Atherton Avenue. Drive east on Atherton Avenue for about 1.7 miles, then turn right on Olive. After about 0.6 mile, turn left on Deer Island Lane. After about 0.2 mile bear right and look for the parking area by the Open Space sign. If the lot is full, look for street parking on Deer Island Lane.
