Lemurs: Art and Conservation
February 24 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am PST
Learn about lemur conservation and how to draw these amazing animals.
Join us for an exploration of the science and art of lemur conservation. Kate Thomson will share her experiences with lemur conservation and John Muir Laws will demonstrate techniques to draw Lemurs.
Katharine (Kate) Thompson is a PhD Candidate in Medical Anthropology at Stony Brook University, where she studies who hunts lemurs and why in Madagascar. Kate works with the villages surrounding Kirindy Mitea National Park, and documents the beliefs, needs and opinions of local people. By understanding the forces that drive communities to illegally hunt and consume wildlife – often poverty and food insecurity — we can better create policy that supports both human and wildlife populations alike. Learn more.
Join John Muir Laws for weekly live nature Journaling workshops with tips, techniques, inspiration, teaching strategies, and interviews. Topics are usually announced in advance of the workshop. If special materials or class-specific downloads are available, you can find them here in the class description before the class. All ages and experience levels are welcome. No registration is necessary.
