Let’s explore the incredibly interesting, calming (and sometimes unexpected!) activity of wildlife sketching bears from direct observation. Beatriz Martin will share her experinces during her 2024 Voices of the Wilderness Artist in Residency in Tongass National Forest (Alaska, US). From lessons learned, fun anecdotes, and best practices for enjoying the art of capturing in a sketchbook bears, rain or shine, with/without mosquitoes/gnats. Also, and not least important, how best to practice drawing wildlife on a limited to non-existing budget.

BIO: Bea is a science illustrator, visual storyteller, and the recipient of the 2024 Richmond Arts Award in Arts Education.With a multidisciplinary background in art and science, Bea loves observing and sketching wildlife from direct observation.  As an educator, she shares her passion for the natural world with her students, and supports their creativity, curiosity, and artistic development with genuine curiosity and endless enthusiasm. And she bakes (and eats!) her own bread.
