Creating complex compositions with Wendy Hollender

Virtual Event

July 9 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am PDT

Learn the novel and usefull techniques Wendy used to create her beautiful new book The album of Plant Families. This could change the way you think of composition!

Today’s Program: Creating a complex composition with various focal points

To create the paintings for the Album of Plant Families Wendy used a technique to create complex compositions right on her final painting. She does this by putting plastic over her paper and laying out different subjects to draw so she can see them together and create focal points and areas of interest with one plant relating to another plant on the page. During this demo she will show you how she does this and do a bit of drawing on the final paper to get things started. Her medium is colored pencil and watercolor together on watercolor paper.

About The Album of Plant Families

In vibrant, full-page illustrations rendered from life, renowned botanical artist Wendy Hollender depicts the plant families most commonly encountered in the garden and in the wild, showing the connections between the plants around us and deepening our appreciation of nature. Her own lively text is complemented by guest essays from a variety of distinguished contributors.
